New Vines Spreading Roots

It’s March! We’re getting our cuttings ready for May planting. Dormant cuttings are dipped in rooting hormone and placed in potting mix and left in a cool dark place (garage works well) to develop roots before they’re place in the field after 4-8 weeks.

And yes, as we transition our farm from cattle to grapes… we’re going to repurpose things. That’s definitely a cattle feed trough we’re rooting those in! And it’s working quite well!

For anyone worried about how close together they are… remember this is just to develop roots in a controlled environment. They won’t be left like this!

And shout out to my little helpers John and Amelia. Only a dozen or so got planted upside down.
